A Direct Guide to Transforming Your Life
June 29 - July 5, 2006
Garrison Institute, Garrison, NY Edit Text

Teaching from his upcoming book The Buddha, The Brain, and the Science of Happiness, Mingyur Rinpoche will guide students through the entire path from the brilliant 'ground' of our inner nature, to the 'fruit' of freedom and peace.

During this unique retreat, Mingyur Rinpoche will be joined by three scientists who are at the very forefront of the exploration of the meeting of western science and the Buddha's teachings: Antoine Lutz PhD, Richie Davidson, and Al Shapere PhD.

This week-long retreat follows the traditional framework of Buddhist training, beginning with a presentation of the philosophical basis, or "ground," of mental transformation, exploring such topics as Buddha nature, emptiness, clarity, and compassion, while providing detailed instructions of the "path," including calm abiding and insight meditation practices, as well as techniques in meditation on loving-kindness and compassion.

Instructions will also include methods for using emotions and suffering as opportunities for personal growth, as well as integrating meditation practice into daily experience as a means of improving the quality of everyday life. The retreat concludes with an examination of the kinds of results, or "fruit, we can expect at various stages along the path.

Rinpoche will be assisted throughout the retreat by Lama Sherab Dorje acting as interpreter.
